Mummering is a Christmas tradition whereby "mummers" go house-to-house, disguising their appearance and their voices. If the mummers are invited into a house, they may performan a dance, play music, and tell jokes or stories. The hosts try to guess the mummers' true identities, and if successful, the disguise is removed and some socializing with food and drink happens before the group travels to the next home.
